Elementary Lead Teacher

The Lower Elementary Lead is a dynamic, friendly, innovative, energetic individual ready to dedicate himself or herself to a supportive joyful working environment while aiding in the continued creation and development of our one-of-a-kind program. This is a full-time teaching position which reports directly to the Program Director. A part-time schedule would be considered.

Qualifications:

  • AMI or AMS Elementary Montessori Certified
  • Bachelor’s degree, in Education, preferred
  • Minimum of 3-5 years teaching experience
  • Spanish speaking with English as a first language
  • Familiarity with Lucy Calkins Units of Study and Orton Gillingham
  • Ability to effectively build relationships with students, parents, faculty, and staff
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills


General Duties:

Curriculum and Instruction:
  • Establishes the morning and afternoon work cycle and gives lessons in alignment with the Montessori philosophy
  • Assists students toward self-directed learning and normalization
  • Provides differentiated lessons based on student need
  • Implement and update curriculum, including the use of any supplemental curriculum, as student needs dictate
  • Plans prepares and maintains all units of study, including Montessori materials
  • Oversight of going-outs, trips, and development of community partnerships
  • Follows the school’s policies and procedures for student evaluation and record keeping, meeting all deadlines
  • Carefully observes and keeps daily records on each student’s individual progression through the classroom
  • Plans and executes trips (including overnight trips) that fit the mission, curriculum and goals for the Elementary school


Supervision of Classroom Assistant:
  • Establishes a harmonious relationship with an assistant that is consistently child-focused
  • Conducts regular team meetings with established agendas and goals
  • Participates in staff evaluation


Communication:
  • Facilitates a respectful environment for children and adults by advocating conflict resolution and Grace and Courtesy lessons
  • Works to develop close and effective relationships with parents, including opportunities to discuss and understand the child’s individual progress
  • Schedules and works with other faculty for any joint Parent Nights, programs/performances, etc.
  • Develops respectful relationships with colleagues in accordance with the MAC Characteristics of Excellence


Professional Responsibilities:
  • Participates in professional activities designated by the Program Director, which may include PD opportunities, parent workshops, committees, staff meetings etc.
  • Maintains a neat, well organized, and attractive prepared environment consistent with Montessori pedagogy
  • Participates in the admissions process, speaking with prospective families, at the request of the Head of School
  • Other job duties as assigned.
