Spanish Language

Our Spanish program allows students to develop Spanish language skills while promoting awareness and appreciation for diverse cultures. Our program uses methodologies for language acquisition that are natural for young language learners. Students are given opportunities in Spanish thematic units to engage in conversations, provide and obtain information, and express feelings and opinions using songs, games, stories, role-play, and art projects. Children steadily build Spanish language skills throughout their journeys in the Toddler, Primary, Integrated Kindergarten, and Elementary communities. They start by mastering the basics in the lower communities and gradually work their way up to more complex learning in the Elementary program including reading, writing and performing in Spanish to demonstrate skill mastery. Throughout their language learning experience, students increase cross-cultural awareness through exposure to the different places where Spanish is spoken, developing a broader world perspective and appreciation for people and culture which is a natural extension of the peace education pedagogy intrinsic to the Montessori learning journey.
