A group of Lower Elementary and Middle School students gathered sunscreen, rakes, and spades and headed to the Gilpin Community Garden to get dirty and give back to their Curtis Park community.

The garden has been inactive for nearly seven years, and the students were ready to help bring it back to life. Through a budding partnership with Denver Urban Gardens (DUG), MAC students are clearing weeds and preparing the soil so community members will soon be able to adopt plots again and grow what they cannot at home. Another group of students will return next Thursday to continue the work in preparation for an Earth Day reopening event on April 22, which will include a rock-painting activity for all students, thanks to DUG.
