Montessori Language in Primary
Jennine Friess

Beginning in our Primary classrooms, children use colorful grammar symbols—like red circles for verbs and black triangles for nouns—to explore how words work together to form sentences.

By placing these shapes above word cards, they begin to understand the function of each word in a hands-on, visual way. This activity helps children internalize grammar concepts naturally as they build and analyze their own sentences. By engaging multiple senses, it deepens their understanding of language and supports stronger reading and writing skills.
