Middle School Mock Model UN Committee Session

Middle School Mock Model UN Committee Session
Jennine Friess

Our Middle School students held a mock Model UN Committee Session in preparation for their trip to Model UN in Rome! Staff, parents, and students all participated in amazing speeches and discussions on student mental health and technology. During the session, the group came up with sub-topics and broke off into interest groups. The sub-topics included social media, cyberbullying, increasing connection/decreasing disconnection, and AI. The Model United Nations (MUN) is an educational simulation where students learn about diplomacy, international relations, and the United Nations by role-playing as delegates from different countries and debating global issues. In this context, the Montessori Model United Nations (MMUN) specifically offers students a unique opportunity to develop a deep understanding of world affairs, cultural sensitivity, and global citizenship. Through MMUN, students enhance their research, writing, public speaking, and critical thinking skills. They engage in teamwork and leadership activities, learning to negotiate and collaborate on solutions to complex problems. This experience not only boosts their confidence but also prepares them for future academic and career opportunities, making them more aware of global diversity and more capable of acting as informed global citizens.
