Lower Elementary Visits Cal-Wood Education Center

Whether it was searching for macroinvertebrates during their first pond study, exploring the greenhouse, or discovering the oldest trees on the property, students rotated through hands-on experiences that sparked curiosity and connection with the natural world. The first evening they gathered for fireside skits and s’mores, sharing laughter and stories under the stars. The next day, groups hiked Mount Solitude, studied wildflowers through a scientific lens, and visited a teepee to learn about the Ute People and their connection to the land. Games exploring echolocation and observation skills rounded out their time, along with a chance to use telescopes and binoculars to observe the trees surrounding their cabins. And of course, no Cal-Wood trip would be complete without plenty of rounds of gaga ball where students showed off their sportsmanship. A significant part of the Cal-Wood experience is the opportunity for students to embrace independence—navigating new terrain, caring for themselves and each other, and growing their confidence with every step.
