How Infants Learn Independence at the Table

In the Nido community, even the youngest children are given the opportunity to practice independence through the use of real forks, spoons, and dishes.

While it may seem early, offering these tools supports essential areas of development by strengthening fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and concentration, while also fostering care and respect for their environment. These simple, purposeful experiences help infants see themselves as capable participants in daily routines, laying the foundation for confidence, independence, and responsibility. And of course, it’s pretty adorable to see our MAC babies sitting together at the table, enjoying a meal side by side.
