A Feast of Learning

A Feast of Learning
Jennine Friess

One of our Primary classrooms prepared a special feast last Friday, working together to chop vegetables, make sandwiches, soup, and fruit punch to create a beautiful meal to share.

In Montessori, experiences like this are much more than celebrations, they are learning opportunities. As children help prepare food, they practice real-life skills such as measuring, sequencing steps, fine-motor refinement, and collaboration. Sitting down to enjoy a meal together reinforces grace and courtesy, fosters community-building, and brings joy to the experience of contributing to something meaningful. Preparing and sharing a feast helps children recognize their own capabilities and deepens their sense of belonging within the classroom community.
