Update from Executive Director
May 16, 2008

I hope to see you all tomorrow at the Playground Enhancement day!  Miss Stephanie has worked really hard at making sure we are organized so that we will be able to accomplish a lot.  We really want to get everything done on the ground before they come to install the new sun shades.
I know that Grace sent out the user name and password to get into the parent page of our new website.  I am looking forward to being able to use the website exclusively for all communication from MAC to parents. Staff has had training on how to update their home pages, but we are still working the out some glitches. We will continue to send out Friday Newsletters and updates via email until we are absolutely certain we have the blog down.  Leads that feel comfortable in doing so, will be posting their Newsletters on the blog as well, so it wouldn’t hurt to check it over the summer months.  At the annual Back to School meeting, BOD member Matt Parsons is preparing a presentation for parents on how to navigate the new website.  Beginning Fall 08 we should be all website!
Speaking of communication there are a couple of points I would like to clarify with everyone.  Individuals working in education are ‘mandatory reports’, meaning we are required by law to report any suspicion we might have concerning abuse or neglect of a child.  This would include neglect or abuse suspected within a family, as well as, any abuse suspected by an employee or former employee of MAC.  This would mean the department of Childcare Services would be notified as well as local law enforcement.  If an employee of MAC was ever accused or suspected of physical, sexual or mental abuse or neglect, the employee would released from his or her responsibilities immediately and parents would be notified with in the confines of the law considering confidentiality and the right to inform.  You have my word that if your child had ever been put in a situation that was harmful to their physical or mental health, I would inform parents immediately.  I hope this will ease your minds when the difficult decision to terminate an employee has to be communicated with the parent body.

Mr. Levi has asked me to share some YOGA news with all of you.
His Yoga for Kids classes will be suspended over the summer.  Mr. Levi has taken a full time spot in Primary Terra over the summer and feels with this new schedule he won’t be able to give the Yoga program as much attention as it needs.  He hopes to be able to reintroduce the program in the fall beginning September 1st, but will probably limit it to our oldest students only; those that are age 4 or 5 by Oct 1st, 2008.  He has found it difficult for the younger 3’s to concentrate, as most do not have spatial awareness necessary to be successful at Yoga yet. Levi would love your feed back.  Any families enrolled this spring are welcome to drop Levi a note and let him know what you thought of the class.

I hope this communication finds you all happy and healthy.  Enjoy the beautiful Colorado spring weekend!

Remember, no school Monday May 26th.

Thanks for listening,
Lisa Armao
Head of School
