Montessori Primary Afterschool Coordinator

We are looking to fill a lead coordinator position in our Primary Afterschool program. We are looking for committed educators who are interested in growing with our community. Hours for the position TBD, but staying until 6:00PM is a requirement. Please submit a cover letter and résumé.

Base Qualifications: 
2 year college level degree
Minimum 3 years of teaching experience with this age group (2.5 to 6 years old), preferably in an afterschool program
Knowledgeable in the Montessori philosophy
Early Childhood Teacher qualified
CPR/1st Aid certified
Medication Administration training preferred

Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to the following:
Supervises the organizational needs of the Primary program after 3:30PM -- including:
Handles medical and logistical emergencies
Contacts Executive Director or Associate Director in emergencies after 3:30PM
Ensures adequate supervision and safety of all students by adjusting staffing needs per room and/or group to meet the needs of students present and keeping costs to a minimum
Sends hourly employees home when numbers of students are low
Transfers responsibilities to 2nd in command in your absence
Responsible for following proper protocol should any children be left after 6:00p
Holds responsibility for the complete closure of the community 
Plans, supervises and implements a consistent sequenced educational program that stimulates learning in the cognitive, affective, social, creative and physical areas
Organizes an appropriate and enriched educational curriculum, cooperating with other staff members when needed
Makes an effort to understand and learn the Montessori philosophy and apply it daily
Supervises and models for assistant teachers
Prepares and repairs materials as needed
Supports independence of the child and being sensitive to his/her real needs
Is responsible for the organized arrangement, appearance, decor and learning environment within the Primary community room
Implements positive classroom management procedures, ensuring that all feel your respect, support, trust and love
Prepares written notices as needed plus a monthly newsletter article in a timely manner to describe special activities, new staff, etc. in after-school program to parents and staff
Attend weekly department meetings and monthly staff meetings
Ensures communication between after-school staff and Leads concerning children, parent and important program information
Collaborates with Primary Leads to align program elements and to ensure consistency within the community
Work accordingly with Nido and Toddler after-care coordinators to help manage a consistent schedule between communities and assist in closing procedures 
Communicates with Leads any inquiries made from parents regarding their child's development, behavior, etc. using a written log
Works to ensure the smooth coordination of all classroom activities plus staff and student inter-relationships
Disinfect all outdoor play equipment and store in designated area
Check to ensure that all after-care responsibilities have been carried out in each classroom (i.e. laundry, dishes, etc.)
Check to ensure all equipment is turned off and outlet covers are on outlets
Turn off all appropriate lights

 

Toddler Assistant (Full-Time)

We are looking for a great fit in a toddler classroom with one lead and two other co-teachers, with 15 toddler students. 

REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum of two completed college courses in ECE or an AA or BA in one of the following areas: Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, CHILD Psychology (a regular psychology degree does not count), Human Development and Family Studies, Child Growth & Development, or Special Education.
Interested in a career as an Early Childhood Educator
Available to work M-F from 8:30am - 5:30pm (40 hrs/wk)
CPR, First Aid, Universal Precautions certifications currently updated
Strong work history and good references
Experience in an early childhood classroom
Montessori experience a plus
Professional appearance and attitude

DUTIES:
Assist lead teacher in implementing the Montessori Method in the classroom
Organize and implement art and craft projects for the children
Manage transitions with the children setting firm limits and using loving discipline
Take direction from the lead teacher and follow through with it
Work in partnership with the lead teacher and parents to facilitate toilet training in the classroom
Model kindness, responsibility, and peaceful interactions for the children
Refers all parent questions and concerns to the lead teacher
Perform daily classroom maintenance duties such as snack preparation, dishes, laundry, and disinfecting
Pursue continuing education opportunities -- specifically learning more about Montessori

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:
Will have supplemental knowledge and skills to share with the school such as music, art, Spanish, and cooking/baking
Is an apt listener and is able to learn quickly and follow instructions
Is willing to make a one year commitment to the school
Has initiative and curiosity
Is reliable, committed, energetic, patient and detail oriented
Is comfortable working with children ages 16 months to 3 years old

 

Infant Assistant Teacher (Full-Time)

We are looking for a full-time assistant in one of our classrooms for infants ages 2 months-18 months. 

REQUIREMENTS:
Current Early Childhood Teacher or Assistant Teacher Credential: two college classes in ECE or a BA or BS in ECE, HDFS, Elementary Ed, Special Ed, or Child Psychology
Interested in a career as an Early Childhood Educator
Available to work M-F 8:15AM-5:15PM (40 hrs/wk)
CPR, First Aid, Universal Precautions certifications currently updated
Strong work history and good references
Experience with infants
Montessori experience a plus
Professional appearance and attitude
Clean criminal record
Ability to lift 30 lbs. and sit on the floor for at least 60 min.

DUTIES:
Assist lead teacher in implementing the Montessori Method in the classroom
Participate in daily record keeping for each child
Daily care of the children including but not limited to: feeding, diapering, singing, and walking
Push up to six babies in a buggy for daily walks
Takes direction from the lead teacher and follows through with it
Models kindness, responsibility, and peaceful interactions for the children
Refers all parent questions and concerns to the lead teacher
Perform daily classroom maintenance duties such as snack preparation, dishes, laundry, and disinfecting
Pursue continuing education opportunities -- specifically learning more about Montessori

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:
Is able to easily bend, squat, lift, carry and sit on the floor for extended periods
Understands developmentally appropriate practices and developmental stages for infants
Is an apt listener and is able to learn quickly and follow instructions
Is willing to make a ONE YEAR commitment to the school
Has initiative and curiosity
Is reliable, committed, energetic, patient and detail oriented
Is comfortable working with children ages 2 months to 18 months

 

Substitute Teachers

We have positions available for substitute teachers to be on our sub list to call when needed; we also have some full-time opportunities available this Summer.

QUALIFICATIONS
Some college classes in Education, preferably ECE or Child Development
Interested in a career as an Early Childhood Educator
CPR, First Aid, Universal Precautions certifications are a plus
Strong work history and good references
Experience in an early childhood classroom
Montessori experience a plus
Professional appearance and attitude
Clean criminal background is a MUST!!
Strong communication skills

JOB DUTIES
Working with children between the ages of 8 weeks through 6 years old
Patiently and lovingly guiding the children through the day
Following the direction of the Lead Teacher and co-teachers in the classroom
Cleaning, organizing, disinfecting, preparing bottles, preparing snack foods
Assisting the children with toileting and/or diapering
Readily communicating with the school regarding your availability
